Aoudad or Barbary Sheep are native to Northern Africa. The Aoudad were introduced to Texas in the 1950’s by ranchers to create better big game hunting opportunities as the desert big horn numbers decreased. These magnificent animals flourished in the Palo Duro Canyon, Trans Pecos region and Caprock of West Texas.
Aoudad are an extremely fun and challenging hunt for hunters of all ages. All of our Texas free range Aoudad hunts are spot and stalk. They are one of the most reasonably priced sheep hunts in the world. There is a ton of glassing involved overlooking some the of the biggest and beautiful country our region of Texas has to offer. We use vehicles to travel around the ranch and get from one place to another. Vantage points are key when finding these beautiful animals. If you are looking for a fun hunt to challenge you and go after something you typically don't see everyday. West Texas free range Aoudad hunts are exactly what you are looking for. Our aoudad here on the U Lazy S Ranch range 28 to 34+ inch horns with bases between 11.5 to 15 inch bases. Making them a beautiful trophy anyone would love to have.
One thing that makes us a little bit different than most other outfitters is our limited harvest of the animals every year. We are very specific about what we take off of our ranch every year. There is really no such thing as a cull when it comes to aoudad. They do not shed their horns every year like a whitetail does, which makes it very important to take big old mature rams. Most of all the trophy aoudad you will see taken off our ranch every year range from 10 to 15 yrs old. Which means the cycle of growing monster rams is much longer than growing a big old mature 5 to 6 year old whitetail. Making it all that more important to focus on only all the big old mature rams.
